Upcoming School Bus Driver Training Classes

posted May 16, 2017, 11:46 AM by Jude Raffeinner

CCPSD is in need of new school bus drivers for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year.

All school bus drivers must eventually obtain a DMV Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for a minimum Class “B”  vehicle with  Air Brakes as well as endorsements for Passenger Buses “P” and School Buses “S”.

In addition, the Virginia Department of Education requires all school bus drivers to obtain a minimum of 24 hours of certified classroom training specific to school buses and a minimum of 24 hours of behind-the-wheel training for all drivers before driving independently with students.

CCPSD will have certified trainers available for FREE classroom and behind-the-wheel training.  Classroom training will next be available on the following dates:

Either all daytime classes on June 12th through June 15th from 8:30 am until 4:00 pm each day, or all evening classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, June 12, 14, 15, 19, 21 and 22 starting at 6:00 or 7:00 pm until 10:00 pm each day.

CCPSD has decided to offer a $250 bonus to those who complete all licensing and training requirements and drive successfully for 6 months for Carroll County schools.  Those completing 12 months of successful driving will receive an additional $250 bonus PLUS reimbursement for the cost of their CDL license for school bus driving.

Please contact David Kinzer, CCPSD Transportation Supervisor, to indicate your interest in taking the FREE classes, or if you have any questions by calling 276-730-3200 and asking for the Transportation Department.

Well trained drivers are necessary for the safety of our students!
