The goals of the Instruction Department is to ensure that Carroll County's curriculum is consistent and coherent from Pre-Kindergarten to the Twelfth Grade. The District's Mission, Goals, and Vision are what serve as the foundation for the curriculum that has been established. In addition; the Local, State and National Standards form the basis for each content area. Both the curriculum and the instructional strategies used to deliver the curriculum are continually being reviewed and updated to help our students achieve an exceptional education. The district's Comprehensive Plan determines the priority and schedule for improvements made to the curriculum.
Our mission is to establish a collaborative working relationship with the District's families and communities to create learning environments for all students. These relationships should nurture the academic, social, and emotional skills of each student through high expectations of excellence that produce life-long learners, world ready leaders and citizens who are prepared to meet the ever-changing challenges of a global society.
Our staff policies and resources will ensure that our students will be engaged in a positive learning experience and a safe learning environment. All students will be provided engaging, meaningful, and high academic standards guided instruction which will lead students to develop a lifetime learning mentality and become contributing members in today's and tomorrow's society.
21st Century Skills
We believe that all students need to be prepared to succeed as effective citizens, workers, and leaders in the 21st century. Therefore, in addition to promoting mastery of core subjects, instruction must infuse 21st Century Skills into all areas of the curriculum to ensure students will become successful in the present and future workplace. The Partnership for 21st Century Skills, a national organization made up of leaders from the business community, education, and policymakers, has defined these skills to include:
- Information and communication skills (information and media literacy skills; communication skills)
- Thinking and problem-solving (critical thinking and systems thinking; problem identification, formulation and solution; creativity and intellectual curiosity)
- Interpersonal and self-direction skills (interpersonal and collaborative skills; self-direction; accountability and adaptability; social responsibility)
- Global awareness
- Financial, economic and business literacy, and developing entrepreneurial skills to enhance workplace productivity and career options
- Civic literacy
